Today’s
game requires that the player excel in skills, tactics, physical ability, and mental acuity for hockey development growth. As hockey is a team
game, the player, if he/she is to be effective, must have
the ability to think in cooperation with teammates,
either in attack, defend, or loose puck
situations.
Therefore,
it’s in the best interests of the player’s long-term
development
to teach and practice “Game thinking” side by side with skill development!
.
Anyone
who registers for a hockey team wants to PLAY the
game of hockey:
Our programs present a progression for
teaching game thinking, concepts,
playing roles, and skills
that compliment this extremely powerful motivator.
At The Edge, we believe that the game itself
is the best teacher. Scrimmages, while fun, are used as
coaching tools and will include “one-on-one” feedback.
Our
drills and games all relate to game situations and are
performed with intentional game-like conditions. The Player
is “coached to recognize the concept” so that he understands
his role at any given time during the course of
play.
There is
never a question as to the Goalie’s role. We believe the same
clarity of role and responsibility should apply to each player
on the ice. Through the use of modified, smart, and
transitional game-play, players acquire the necessary abilities
to react in the appropriate manner to all game
situations.
The
Edge has assembled a team of Coaches who understand
that success happens both for the Player and for the team when
these game thinking concepts are introduced in concert with
skills. Allister Smith, Joey Robbins, Ryan Ramsay, Spencer Ross, Bobby Cheverie, and Jeremy Ramsay
make a difference.
Being in the right place at the right
time, and efficiently performing the right
function…
